READ THIS READ THIS READ THIS!!!!!! It will allow you to open task manger!

To reset your administrative setting to allow for task manager, simply go to run, copy and paste this:

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

hit Enter. Works every time, for me at least :)

Av,
You should try to switch from administrator to a simple user through 'User Accounts' at Control Panel.
Thank you

Sandra,
You can edit Windows Registry by accessing the registry editor. It can be done by choosing 'Run' and typing in 'regedit'.
If you're still not sure how to do it, try to get rid of IS2010 malware the automatic way.
BTW, have you tried to boot into Safe Mode? It's entered via repeatedly pressing F8 key when you are starting up your system. Safe Mode should prevent Internet Security 2010 virus from blocking your attempts to remove it. Just boot into Safe Mode and use the automatic instructions above.

I've managed to kick out the IS 2010 by:
- changing my account privileges to simple user,
- setting the simpliest startup possible with msconfig (like admin wrote above).
After this I could manually remove the IS 2010 as written above.

When I removed the IS 2010 and rebooted the system, I've discovered that I can't logon into any of my accounts. It appears, that some versions of IS 2010 change the Windows registry.

The solution is to set the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ WindowsNT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon
to point into windows userinit.exe file.

When I've finally logged into my computer I've discovered that:
- the task manager isn't working,
- I can't change the wallpaper.

The solution to this problems is again a registry edit. Find in the current_user and local_machine branches the following path:
software > microsoft > windows > currentversion > policies

Then remove the keys:
noactivedesktopchanges
nosetactivedesktop
nochangingwallpaper

Conclusion: When just surfing in the web use a simple user account rather then an administrator one - the IS2010 won't have a chance to install, mix up the registry and do any harm.

I am a computer network admin by trade and my daughter got this nasty malware on her PC. Nothing I tried worked. After hours of trying to fix her PC, I ended up puttting her drive in another PC I have as a second drive. I booted off my non-infected drive then I removed all the above listed files. I then put the drive back in her PC and the malware was gone - for the most part. I them manually deleted the registry entries listed above and I also ran a couple of removal software tools. Her drive is now clean. Hope this helps.

I had a computer that was infected with this at work. I rebooted the machine in safe mode and it still started up with Internet Security 2010. I rebooted again in normal mode and immediately hit "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" as soon as I entered my password to log on. That allowed me to open up the task manager before the malware had a chance to block it. I then opened up the run line and opened up "regedit," again, before the malware had a chance to block it. As soon as IS2010 popped up I ended the process in the opened task manager and proceded to clean the computer.
