How to remove Privacy Center rogue anti-spyware

Malware Description:
Privacy Center (AKA PrivacyCenter) is a misleading program and a direct clone of the Privacy Components, which is an infamous rogue anti-malware tool that is known to have tricked thousands of unsuspecting computer users worldwide. Being a successor of such a hazardous application, Privacy Center inherits all of its most misleading features to eventually become even more successful in terms of fooling victims around. Privacy Center unregistered version typically infiltrates through backdoor Trojans that attach themselves to corrupt web downloads, spam e-mail attachments, or directly intrude using security software flaws on the compromised computer. No matter how it trespassed on you, Privacy Center will run each time you start your machine and manifest itself through its exaggerated popup alerts and fabricated scanners that report a variety of infections. These detected threats are claimed to be resident on your computer, but are in fact either non-existent ones or such that have nothing to do with your PC. These misleading scanners pursue a single objective – to make you purchase Privacy Center full commercial version which is stated to be able to aid you in removing these “detections”. It’s worth mentioning that one of the illicitly proclaimed virtues of Privacy Center is its being an all-in-one set of supposedly useful tools like Cookie guarder, Secure channel, Surf protector, Registry doctor and a few others. However, none of the above is fully functional, so don’t get too comforted by this. Instead, remove Privacy Center ASAP if detected in order to keep your system secure.

    Hi,

Thank good ness somebody is doing something about this type of malicious software – well done. Norton 360 doesn’t appear to be of any help.

I have downloaded your software onto a pendrive to use on my laptop.

However I have a problem. The Privacy Center takes over my computer before I get to my personal settings which of course would then allow me to use your software.

    What do I do now?

    Many thanks

    Roger

    Roger,
You should try to run Spyware Doctor in Safe Mode, which you can access by pressing and holding F8 when starting your laptop. Just follow the Safe Mode hints and launch the automatic tool this way.

Thank You for making a tool that will get rid of that dam privacy center. I am a Computer Tech and I see Privacy Center on many computers. It’s nice to have a tool to remove it automatically instead of taking an hour out of my time to remove it manually. Your Scanner and Remover works perfectly and I would recommend it to anyone who has a problem with Privacy Center.

How do I get rid of it bcause as soon as I start my computer up Privacy Center starts and I just get a black screen with the program up.

  9. admin |

    Malcolm,
In your case, we recommend installing our removal tool in Safe Mode which can be accessed by pressing and holding F8 when booting. There should be the option of running Spyware Doctor in Safe Mode with networking.

    Hey there,
I’m usually quite good at dealing with viruses, but this Privacy Center seems to have really gotten a good grasp of my machine.
I’ve attempted to boot up in Safe Mode, but even when I sign on there, I’m still getting the Privacy Center to pop up. All I can see is that, with no menu bar and no icons.

    Please help!
    Dylan

    Hello
    Thanks for the info.
I had paid a visit to an adult web site. Or what appeared to be. Each video you clicked on sent you to a page that said that you did not have flash version 11. Download it here. Upon reboot, some strange voice comes on while the windows logo is still on the screen. Then privacy center takes over and the only way out of it is to hit ctrl+alt+del, hit task manager and end the task.

I had no choice then but to enter safe mode, which this blasted thing also took over. My next choice was to enter safe mode with command prompt and delete the basic files. Now I can’t get back into normal windows at all. So hopefully, your removal tool will take care of this bad puppy.

I’m so ticked off I’m tempted to file a lawsuit against these people as well as their host. Ok so that’s a fantasy and will never happen.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Monica,
If you encountered Privacy Center malware on your laptop, you should try our removal recommendations for this rogue anti-spyware. As far as we see, you are not an experienced PC user, so you may find it hard to do it manually.
You should try the automatic removal tool which you can download by following one of the links in the post above.
Install Spyware Doctor, scan your system for free and, if detected, perform Privacy Center removal.
    Good luck fixing your system!

The problem is we can’t install your program.we can’t get to windows to install it because privacy center locks you out and it even pops up in safe mode. Has anyone found a way around this?

  24. admin |

    Ryan,
You might try using the System Restore option. Just restore the state of your system to the date when you remember your PC was not infected yet. Doing so should at least make it possible to install our automatic remover for Privacy Center.
Or (if it doesn’t work) try the manual removal recommendations above.
    Good luck!

This is what worked for me, but windows being what it is your mileage may vary.

Note I was unable to remove it with system restore, or from safe mode, and am using windows XP sp3

First use ctrl/alt/del to bring up task manager

Go to File > new task(Run) and enter cmd or command and press enter
    This will start command prompt

At the prompt enter ‘start …’ then press enter
That’s start followed by space then three dots

Usually this command should bring up the MY Computer window. In my case it restored my desktop and froze Privacy Center for me to be able to follow the removal recommendations above.
I don’t know why this worked as it did, but in any case if it brings up the My Computer window instead, as it’s supposed to, you should be able to solve the problem from there anyway.

  28. Me |

    It kills the process explorer.exe..

From the task manager you need to run explorer.exe and it should go ahead and boot into windows.

  29. Dorothea |

the way athol describes was the one that also worked for me. I installed your program and now it is scanning my desktop right now. Thanks a lot guys, you just made my day.

  30. admin |

    Dorothea,
    We’re glad it works! :)
Enjoy using your PC without the pest called Privacy Center!

A friend brought his computer for me to look at after Privacy Center started at boot up on his computer. In his case it totally takes over the machine. The only way to close it is with cntr/alt/del unfortunately after it is closed the screen is totally black. I get EXACTLY the same results when I boot in safe mode. The point here is there is no way to run your program or manually remove Privacy Center when I cannot access windows. Can you tell me some other way to get into windows that will allow me to run the program or manually remove Privacy Center??

  33. admin |

    Woody,
In order to access Windows and download the remover, you should try to follow Athol’s tips he mentions in his comment above.
Or, you can run explorer.exe command from the Task Manager.
Try doing that, it should let you get into Windows.

ya this faggot ass program made me install windows again. lost everything. if u dont want to have problems, DO NOT INSTALL PRIVACY CENTER

  37. Luc |

For those of us using Vista and having a problem with the black screen that remains after privacycenter has been closed from the processes in task manager, you can complete the boot operation or at least start Windows Explorer by clicking the Services tab in the task manager, then click the “Services” box at the bottom right of the list of services. A window that looks like the command prompt will pop up asking you to enter the name of the program you would like to open; simply type “explorer” and it will load windows explorer.
I saw plenty of useful advise on thus forum and I am gonna try to use that to fix my friend’s computer in a second. Wish me good luck, and good luck to you all with that pest that is Pc.

  38. Luc |

I need to correct an earlier post. In Windows Vista, To load Windows Explorer after you have ended the pc.exe process in the task manager, still in the task manager, just go under “File” and select “New Task (Run)”; A “Create New Task” window will open, then simply type “explorer” and it will load Windows Explorer, allowing you to proceed with the spyware removal process.

  39. Tom |

    Thanks it worked for me.

Tried downloading removal program yesterday, was told it came in corrupted, to try again. I’m downloading it again, hope it works this time. Wish me luck

  41. CT |

This worked as advertised, excellent tool. I was stuck at the Privacy Center screen and couldn’t do anything at all.

  42. Benson |

One thing i would say to people who cannot boot their dekstop/laptop, as Privacy Centre immediatly intiates upon start up and does not let you open anything else.

You can click the ‘microsoft’ URL, that is in the bottom left of the Privacy Centre screen, and this runs a browser, so you can affectively use the internet. Just google the automatic privacy centre removal tool, and there you go.

  43. edd |

wow, id like to that ‘me’ for his explorer.exe advice it worked perfectly for me, now just waiting for your program to clean up =]

  44. Nishy |

I’m honestly really lame with computers so please please help me!
This evening I tried to watch an episode of Ugly Betty off some website, but when I clicked play, it told me I needed to download some sort of stream file. So I did. That’s when I noticed the Privacy Center pop up on my laptop. I thought this must’ve been a virus so I’ve just googled it and my thoughts are correct unfortunately. Now my laptop is still functioning as I have not shut it down so can someone please guide me step by step on how to remove this before it causes any damage.
I just downloaded the Spyware Doctor thing from the link above, now what do I do with it? What is it supposed to do? Please please help!

  45. admin |

    Nishy,
It’s too bad you fell another victim of Privacy Center fraud.
If you have sucessfully installed our removal tool, just launch it and let it scan your PC for malware. If the scan detects the virus (which it should), enable the repair option.
If the remover is not opening, just enter Safe Mode (F8 at startup) and run it in Safe Mode.
    Hope this helped!

Thanks for all your posts, i was able to get rid of the privacy center beast w/ Athols advice; luc’s solution looks like it’ll work too (fyi)!!!
    Appreciated!!!!

  47. Danny |

You guys were a great help, followed your instructions, and it worked, Thanks.

  48. Jade |

Oh my god! thankyou guys so much my dad would have killed me if he had come on the comp and seen this privacy centre thing! thanks for saving my life lol

  49. Jeff |

I had the problem where privacy center took over my computer as soon as I logged in under my user account. PC popped up and closing it left me with a black blank screen. Since I could get to the user log in page, I restarted and logged in under a different user account. This time I was able to load windows.
Logging in under a different user account might be a way to get windows to load when the safe and normal modes are blocked this way. Even if you don’t share your computer, it’s a good idea to set up another user profile with full administrator rights – just in case.
